Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Baked Sweet Potato Fries are a delicious dish made only with sweet potatoes and spices. They are crispy and covered in a vibrant spice mix.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Do you ever crave french fries? I sometimes do. I've been through an interesting evolution with fries. As a little kid I used to hate french fries. If we went to a fast food restaurant, I would never eat the fries. Then as I got older I started to love the salty crunchy sticks. In high school I began to care more about myself and my health so I pretty much swore off fast food. When I started eating plant-based, I learned how oils and fried foods can affect your body so I avoid eating fries. But I LOVE sweet potatoes.

I usually bake them in rounds like this Japanese Sweet Potato recipe but I wanted to mix things up. I was thinking about fries and decided to create Baked Sweet Potato Fries. These fries give us the health benefits of sweet potatoes but without added oils from frying.

Don't worry though. These Baked Sweet Potato Fries are NOT devoid of taste. Instead, we cover them in a mix of savory spices that pair perfectly with the sweetness of the sweet potato. YUM.

Ingredients

No crazy ingredients here, just sweet potatoes and spices!

  • Sweet Potato: Be sure to leave the skins on the potatoes - the skin is what has all the fiber, which is good for your gut.
  • Spices: Smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. These spices create a smoky, savory, salty coating, giving these fries tons of flavor without added fat and calories.

How to make Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Step 1. To make these healthy fries, start by chopping a sweet potato. I used a large potato that I cut in half to create the typical fry length. Then I cut the halves into slices. And then into rectangles. You can make the fries as thick or as thin as you want. If they are thin, they will brown quickly and get extra crispy in the oven. If they are thick, they will be softer and have more in the middle.

Step 2. Mix the spices together, then mix with the sweet potatoes. To get the spices to stick to the potato, add roughly a tablespoon of water. No oil necessary!

Step 3. Spread the potatoes on a baking sheet. Bake at 425 for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through. Remove from the oven and enjoy your delicious fries guilt free!

thank you for the oil free recipe. I'm getting introduced to wild Bolete mushrooms here in Colorado, and everyone sautes Bolete's in butter or olive oil. I'm on a veggie, oil free regimen for heart health reasons. and your recipe suggestion may fill the bill. I can't wait to give it a try.
