Homemade Almond Butter

Smooth and delicious, sweet and savory, this Homemade Almond Butter is completely oil-free. No bad stuff, just 100% almonds!

What is your favorite type of nut butter? I'll admit, mine is Mixed Nut Butter -- I love the depth of flavor. But almond butter is high on my list, especially Homemade Almond Butter. There is nothing better than nut butter with a perfect consistency and without any additives like sugar or oil.

Health Benefits of Almonds

Almonds are full of good-for-you nutrients. Almonds contain arguably the best nutrient: fiber. They also have vitamin E, manganese, and magnesium. Almonds can improve cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels. Nuts in general are great for weight loss.

Additionally, the skin of almonds contains antioxidants. This is one of the best arguments for making Homemade Almond Butter instead of buying store bought. When you make your own, you can ensure you're using almonds with the skins on so you get all those powerful antioxidants!

Even if you don't care so much about all the 'health stuff' almonds are straight-up delicious. Eat up :)

How to make Homemade Almond Butter

Homemade Almond Butter is so easy to make. It's just one ingredient (you guessed it): almonds.

Start by roasting raw almonds in the oven. This will drastically reduce your processing time. Roasting helps the almonds release their natural oils which will help to create smooth, creamy almond butter in less time.

When you can smell the almonds in the oven, it's time to take them out. Pour them straight into your food processor and process until smooth. You may have to stop to scrape down the sides of the bowl.

The key to super smooth almond butter is allowing a couple extra minutes of processing. Once you see the almonds turn into almond butter it can be tempting to just turn off the food processor and devour your creation. BUT if you wait a couple more minutes until you can hear the almond butter sloshing on the sides of the food processor, you will end up with a much smoother butter.

Simply pour your new Homemade Almond Butter into a jar and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups Raw Almonds

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350. Arrange the almonds on a baking sheet and heat in the oven until you can smell their fragrance. It is okay if the almonds go in the oven while it is heating up.
  2. Remove the almonds from the oven and place in a food processor. Process until smooth. Scrape down the sides if you need to. For a very creamy butter, continue to process the butter until you can hear the almond butter sloshing on the sides of the bowl. Remove and store in a jar. Enjoy!

thank you for the oil free recipe. I'm getting introduced to wild Bolete mushrooms here in Colorado, and everyone sautes Bolete's in butter or olive oil. I'm on a veggie, oil free regimen for heart health reasons. and your recipe suggestion may fill the bill. I can't wait to give it a try.
